Philippines’ Marcos vows ‘Christmas in jail’ for those involved in bogus flood control projects
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Junior has promised “Christmas in jail” for officials and politicians involved in bogus flood control projects. An independent fact-finding committee has filed criminal charges of graft, corruption and plunder against 86 construction executives and government officials, as well as 37 individuals suspected of evading taxes worth 9 billion pesos. This comes days after the country suffered from two powerful typhoons, Kalmaegi and Fung-wong, which resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and millions worth of damages — mostly due to massive flooding from badly constructed or non-existent flood control projects. Maria Ronson reports from Manila.
