‘Peach blossom flood’ paints spring spectacle at China’s Hukou Waterfall #coolchina
The Yellow River has fully reopened as of March 14, ushering in the annual “spring peach blossom flood” at the Hukou Waterfall in Yichuan County, northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. The surging river and blooming mountain peach blossoms create a spectacular spring scene. Typically visible from late March to early April, the phenomena occurs when melting ice meets peach blossoms along the riverbanks.
Hukou Waterfall is one of the great marvels on the Yellow River. As the river reaches Jixian County in Shanxi Province, the water surface abruptly narrows from 300 to 400 meters to just over 50 meters, plunging into a stone groove more than 30 meters deep. The resulting spectacle resembles water pouring from a giant teapot – hence the name “Hukou” (literally “teapot spout”) Waterfall. #china #yellowriver
