Panda cub’s sooty look goes viral
🐼 A panda is supposed to be black and white, right? Not this one!

A sooty-looking member of the beloved species was spotted in Wolong National Nature Reserve in southwest China’s Sichuan Province and has gone viral. Footage shows an almost entirely black panda cub lounging on a tree branch, no white fur in sight.

The cub’s uncharacteristic coat had many fans scratching their heads. “Did you go mining for coal?” one asked, while another joked, “No cosplay as a black bear allowed!”

Pandas’ natural – and sometimes “messy” – behavior in outdoor environments, which includes rolling in mud, soil and dust, is responsible for the cub’s sooty look, breeders at the reserve explained.
