US President Donald Trump claimed that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told him 35 million people would have died had he not stepped in. “Thirty-five million people, said the Prime Minister of Pakistan, would have died if it were not for my involvement,” Trump said. He made the remarks while repeating his assertion that he stopped eight wars within the first year of his second term at the White House, citing threats of tariffs. Trump was speaking before a joint session of Congress in Washington. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 last year, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. India has consistently maintained that the understanding on the cessation of hostilities with Pakistan was reached through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two militaries.
