NDTV Sonam Raghuvanshi | Trial Begins In Murder Of Indore Businessman Raja Raghuvanshi

The trial in the sensational murder case of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi began today before the Court of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Judicial), Shillong, with the examination of the complainant and the victim’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi.

Proceedings commenced after charges were formally framed against five accused — the victim’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her alleged accomplices Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Aakash Singh Rajput, and Anand Kurmi — all of whom pleaded not guilty.

Special Public Prosecutor K.C. Gautam described the case as watertight and supported by around 90 witnesses, noting that only the complainant was examined today, with further examinations scheduled in upcoming hearings. The trial formally began with the framing of the chargesheet, marking the start of the prosecution’s evidence.

Complainant Vipin Raghuvanshi stated that the court has fixed November 26 as the next hearing date, as his full statement could not be completed due to time constraints.

The case stems from the alleged murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, who had travelled to Meghalaya with his wife for their honeymoon in May this year. The couple was reported missing on May 26, prompting an extensive search operation. On June 2, Raja’s body was recovered from a deep gorge at Arliang Riat Kunongrim, Umblai, near Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra.
