Protesters clashed with police as thousands of people took to the streets in Dhaka on Monday to celebrate the verdict given to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been sentenced to death in absentia by a special tribunal.

Footage captured shows residents cheering as they chanted ‘hang’ following the sentence. Some demonstrators had arrived with a bulldozer, reportedly targeting the house of Hasina’s father, before paramilitary forces intervened. Skirmishes broke out, with bricks hurled at officers, as authorities worked to disperse crowds.
