NDTV Maithili Thakur, Singer-Turned-Politician, Becomes Bihar’s Youngest MLA

Defying critics who questioned her age and political inexperience, 25-year-old Maithili Thakur not only won the Alinagar seat but also delivered a major breakthrough for the BJP in an RJD bastion.

By the 20th round of counting, Thakur had built a strong lead with 70,044 votes, ahead of RJD heavyweight Binod Mishra’s 63,090.

Thakur, who has vowed to prove that a 25-year-old woman MLA can work “as fast or even faster” than seasoned leaders, said her focus will be on development — with renaming Alinagar to Sitanagar, in line with local sentiment, as one of her priorities.

At 25, she joins the list of Bihar’s youngest political entrants, previously marked by Tauseef Alam (26, in 2005) and Tejashwi Yadav (26, in 2015).
