Hailing from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China but having spent over a decade in Beijing, Asr blends the soul of traditional Mongolian music—like the horsehead fiddle and throat singing—with jazz, electronic, and West African influences.

As a keyboardist and composer in two boundary-pushing bands, NaraBara and Mola Oddity, he’s brought his unique sound to audiences in Europe and beyond. Our reporter Yang Yan sits down with the Mongolian artist to explore how his roots have shaped his musical journey around the world.
