Moscow’s car import curbs a ‘small crack’ in Russia-China relationship: Analyst
After several years of spectacular growth, Chinese car sales in Russia have hit the brakes as Moscow moves to bolster its domestic auto industry. Despite rising friction over the tougher import rules, analyst Danil Pivovarov of Autostat says the move is part of the Kremlin’s strategy to localise production, not to push Chinese automakers out. He tells CNA’s East Asia Tonight that Chinese manufacturers could ultimately benefit if they establish assembly plants in Russia.
