Milan residents question U.S. ICE presence at Winter Olympics
Some residents in Milan, Italy, are raising concerns after learning that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, agents will be deployed during the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games.
U.S. authorities say the agents are from ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations unit, which supports overseas security operations and is separate from Enforcement and Removal Operations, the branch responsible for immigration enforcement inside the United States. Still, some locals are questioning whether the presence of ICE agents is necessary, arguing that Italy is capable of ensuring security on its own.
