Mexico News | Miner Found Alive In Flooded Mexico Mine After Being Trapped For Two Weeks #NDTV

Francisco Zapata Nájera, 42, was found alive with water up to his waist.

The El Rosario Mine in Sinaloa state in the south of the country collapsed on March 25, trapping four minters.

At the time of the incident, 25 miners were working underground, and 21 managed to escape on their own.

Army divers located the trapped miner Tuesday, but it took about 21 hours before crews were able to bring him out, according to official statements.

Video released by the Secretariat of Defense showed divers reaching the miner and speaking with him.

Zapata told the divers how high the water had risen pointing to a higher point within the mine, as rescuers prepared to extract him.

Authorities said Zapata had been trapped along with three other miners after a structural collapse caused a rupture in a nearby reservoir, flooding the galleries.

One miner was rescued alive five days later at a depth of about 300 meters, while the body of a third worker has since been recovered.

Search efforts are ongoing for a fourth miner who remains missing.
