Macron Dares Putin Again As French Military Storms Russian ‘Ghost Ship’ That ‘Aided Drone Invasions’
French troops raided the Benin-flagged oil tanker Boracay—a vessel linked to Russia’s “shadow fleet” and suspected of launching drones into NATO airspace—just days after a string of drone incursions shut down Danish and other European airports. The ship, on an EU sanctions blacklist, was boarded off western France and its captain and first mate detained for “serious offences” amid suspicions it acted as a drone launchpad or decoy. While President Macron stopped short of directly confirming Russian involvement, he described the raid as justified and warned the EU is in “confrontation with Russia,” which is accused of exploiting a network of nearly 1,000 covert vessels to test Western defenses. The operation underscores Europe’s concern over hybrid aggression, with calls for stronger countermeasures—including the continent-wide “drone wall”—at the latest EU summit in Copenhagen.
