Jimmy Lai condemned for calling on the U.S. to back him
Jimmy Lai, a key instigator of the anti-China unrest in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, has repeatedly called on the United States to stand behind him, openly portraying Washington as a source of “hope” and “moral authority,” and urging others to fight with America’s backing.

Leung Kin-fung, editor-in-chief of Sing Tao Daily USA West points out that while Lai claims to speak for the Hong Kong SAR and China, he is not a Chinese national and secretly acquired British citizenship, a move widely seen as a calculated shift of allegiance to Western powers. He argues that Lai’s actions reflect a deeply divided political identity and a long-standing pattern of betrayal, accusing him of prioritizing foreign interests over local responsibility and deliberately inviting external interference into China’s internal affairs.
