Israel Takes First Hit In ‘Occupy Gaza’ Operation As More Countries Recognize Palestinian State
Israel has reported its first fatality in the ‘Occupy Gaza’ operation. On September 22, 27-year-old Major Shahar Netanel Bozaglo, a company commander in the IDF’s 7th Armored Brigade, was killed in Gaza City after Hamas fire targeted his battalion’s tanks, according to an initial probe. Bozaglo, from Migdal HaEmek, is the first casualty since the launch of Israel’s fresh ground offensive. The battlefield setback comes as Israel faces growing diplomatic isolation. French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking at the UN General Assembly, formally announced France’s recognition of the Palestinian state, declaring that “the time has come” for a two-state solution. Macron emphasized that recognizing Palestine’s rights does not undermine Israel’s, but strengthens the path to peace. France’s move follows a wave of recognitions: the UK, Australia, Portugal, and Canada declared Palestinian statehood on September 21, while Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Andorra, and Monaco pledged imminent recognition.
