Is Trump raising the stakes with his nuclear weapons testing move?
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday (Oct 30) said nuclear weapons testing should never be permitted under any circumstances. His remarks came after United States President Donald Trump announced that he had instructed the Pentagon to resume nuclear weapons testing ahead of his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Allan Behm, from the international and security affairs programme at the Australia Institute, tells CNA’s Asia Now why he thinks Trump may have been making a political statement rather than signalling a policy shift.
