Iran war threatening food aid for 800,000 people worldwide: UN
The United Nations warns that the war on Iran is disrupting the delivery of food aid around the world, impacting vulnerable communities. The UN’s World Food Programme says around 70,000 metric tonnes of aid are affected, with some supplies stuck in ports – estimated to be enough to feed more than 800,000 people for three months. While the agency does not ship food through the Strait of Hormuz, disruptions are driving up fuel costs, affecting shipping routes worldwide and delaying vessels. Alexander Matheou, Asia Pacific director at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, shares more with CNA’s Asia Now.
