India US Trade Deal | Shivraj Singh Chouhan: US Cuts Tariffs, Spice Exports Jump 88%
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the benefits of the India-US interim trade agreement, noting that the US has reduced tariffs on several Indian agricultural products from 50% to 0%, leading to an 88% increase in spice exports to 200 countries, while Indian farmers enjoy full tariff exemptions. He emphasized that key crops, fruits, and dairy products—including soybeans, rice, wheat, sugar, poultry, and dairy—remain protected, with no concessions granted to the US, ensuring that Indian agriculture and farmers are not harmed. Chouhan also pointed out that Indian textiles face a significantly lower tariff than competitor countries and that the deal will improve the lives of women in self-help groups. Under PM Modi’s leadership, nine Free Trade Agreements have already been signed, with more discussions underway, forming important steps toward a “Viksit Bharat 2047” and a self-reliant India.
