Hindustan Times Zelensky Sides With Spain, Snubs Europe After Madrid’s €200m Investment In Joint Defence Production

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced hundreds of millions of euros in new support for Kyiv, calling on Europe to “follow Spain’s example.” Sánchez confirmed €817 million for Ukraine’s defence, civilian protection, and infrastructure reconstruction. Zelensky also revealed Spain’s participation in the SAFE defence industry programme, adding another €200 million for joint weapons production. Despite the praise, both leaders avoided addressing the growing corruption scandal in Ukraine, which has raised concerns among allies about where foreign aid is going. Sánchez himself faces criticism at home over defence spending and disaster relief failures.
