Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva celebrated Washington’s decision to lift a 40% tariff on key agricultural exports from Brazil, including meat, coffee and tropical fruits. The tariff rollback, described by the White House as a “strategic adjustment in trade policy,” signals a thaw in tensions following U.S. restrictions placed on South American imports in July. Lula said the measure will help Brazilian companies regain competitiveness in the U.S. market and pave the way for new bilateral trade talks. Highlighting Brazil’s record levels of foreign direct investment, he declared that global confidence in Brazil’s economy “has never been greater.”
