Hindustan Times Trump Fumes At NATO Ally Spain Amid Iran War; ‘If US Wants, We Can Just Fly In And…’

U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to cut off all trade with Spain during a heated exchange over NATO defence spending, speaking alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the White House on Tuesday.

Trump criticised Spain for refusing to commit to raising defence spending to 5% of GDP under NATO targets. “They were the only country that would not agree to go up to 5 per cent,” he said, adding, “We’re going to cut off all trade with Spain. We don’t want anything to do with Spain.” He also lashed out at the United Kingdom, referencing the dispute over the Chagos Islands agreement with Mauritius.

The president criticised UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the decision to hand back the Chagos Islands while leasing back Diego Garcia, home to a key U.S.-UK military base. Trump suggested the move complicated U.S. military logistics during operations tied to escalating tensions with Iran.
