Walz says that 24 hours after the killing of Alex, a 37‑year‑old Minnesotan ICU nurse, veteran caregiver, lawful gun owner and man with no criminal record, the focus must be not only on how he died “at the hands of ICE agents on the streets of Minneapolis” but on how he lived—a life of generosity and service that his parents, Michael and Susan, begged him to keep telling the world about. He notes that two Minnesotans (including Renee, “a poet and a mother and a bright spirit”) are now dead, and pointedly asks Trump, “What’s the plan?” demanding that 3,000 “untrained agents” be pulled out of Minnesota “before they kill another person,” insisting that the state believes in law and order and peace but will not accept more deaths.
