Hanson entered the Senate chamber wearing a full black burqa after being denied permission to introduce a bill seeking to ban face coverings in public spaces, triggering immediate backlash — including accusations of racism — from Muslim lawmakers and other MPs.

The censure motion against the One Nation leader passed 55–5, marking a rare and strong rebuke from across the political spectrum.
