#GLOBALNEWS “This is what authoritarianism looks like”: ABC suspends Jimmy Kimmel’s show indefinitely

Kimmel, the veteran late-night comic, made several comments in reaction to Kirk’s assassination on his shows Monday and Tuesday night. He said that “many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.”

ABC, which has aired Kimmel’s late-night show since 2003, moved swiftly after Nexstar Communications Groups said it would pull the show starting Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Federal Communications Commissions Chair Brendan Carr had called Kimmel’s comments “truly sick” and said his agency had a strong case for holding Kimmel, ABC and network parent Walt Disney Co. accountable for spreading misinformation.

“This is the Trump administration coming after people who speaking out against him. This is the end of it. If you have any concern or believe in real freedom or the Constitution and free speech, this is it,” said comic Marc Maron in response to the news.

“This is what authoritarianism looks like right now in this country. It’s happening.”

There was no immediate comment from Jimmy Kimmel.
