Talks stall between Alberta teachers, government in provincewide strike
Alberta’s finance minister says there’s still a huge divide between the government and the union representing striking teachers.
The provincewide strike, impacting 740,000 students across 2,500 schools, enters its eighth day on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the Alberta Teachers’ Association put forward its first contract proposal since its 51,000 teachers walked off the job.
The teachers are demanding better pay and that the government hire more teachers – but the province says the union is asking for more than they’re willing to spend.
