Swatch takes down ad featuring Asian model in “slanted eye” pose after racism backlash
Swiss watchmaker Swatch has removed an ad featuring an Asian model pulling the corners of his eyes in a “slanted eye” pose after the image prompted accusations of racism.

Residents in Shanghai were dismayed and angered on Monday, saying, ” I feel that if foreigners are disrespectful to us, then we don’t need to show our respect back. Then there is a general international gesture for them, which is the middle finger.”

“When they do this campaign, especially when they use Asian models, they should pay this attention, like a fundamental guideline,” said Peter Xu a fashion influencer.

The company said that it has “taken note of the recent concerns” and removed all related materials worldwide, in an apology posted in both Chinese and English on its official account on the Weibo social media platform on Saturday.
