Supreme Court decision to end mandatory jail time for child predators leads to raucous parliament
Monday’s question period in the House of Commons became quite raucous after Conservative MP Larry Brock raised the question as to why the Supreme Court of Canada struck down mandatory jail time for child predators convicted with possessing child abuse material.
“That decision is disgusting. These offenders weren’t caught with a few files, they had hundreds of images and videos of children as young as three being tortured and abused. Yet, instead of standing up for victims, this Liberal government stays silent,” Brock said.
“Child abusers should face the toughest penalties under Canadian law,” responded Liberal Secretary of State on Combating Crime Ruby Sahota.
