The rare event could be seen over the Pyramids of Giza, China’s Forbidden City and Jerusalem, among dozens of other landmark cities.

A blood moon occurs when the Earth, moon and sun perfectly align and create a total lunar eclipse.

The moon loses its common white light for a brief moment and appears in a deep red hue thanks to the reflection of Earth’s sunsets and sunrises on the moon’s surface.
