#GLOBALNEWS “Israel wants to seek peace with its neighbours”: President Herzog says on peace deal

If all goes to plan, the return of 20 Israelis – and the bodies of approximately 28 others – will mark the crux of the first phase in a U.S.-brokered peace deal to end the war between Israel and Hamas.

Speaking to citizens at Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square Sunday, Israeli President Isaac Herzog vowed that “Israel is committed to fulfilling the agreement” and “wants to seek peace with its neighbours,” so long as they live up to their end of the deal.

Herzog also sent a message to Israel’s “bashers and haters” blaming them for “seeking war,” claiming that Hamas returning the remaining hostages will “change the Middle East.”

Palestinian prisoners being held in Israel will be released once officials have confirmed the Israeli hostages have “crossed into Israeli territory,” according to a spokesperson from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office.
