Marking his first day with the federal government, d’Entremont stood beside Prime Minister Mark Carney at an Ottawa press conference – which he later offered remarks at.

“It’s time to actually try to lead a country, to try to make it better and not try to knock it down – not to continue to be negative,” d’Entremont told reporters, explaining his decision to leave the Conservative Party led came after he read through Carney’s 2025 federal budget Tuesday.

Asked if any of his former caucus members felt the same way about crossing the Parliament floor as he did, d’Entremont said “there probably are those that are in the same boat, but I will let them tell their stories if that time comes.”
