Australian police continue manhunt for heavily armed gunman skilled in “bushcraft”
Australian police on Wednesday continued with their search for 56-year-old Dezi Freeman, a “heavily armed” gunman who allegedly shot dead two officers and injured another at a rural property in the state of Victoria.
 
“Our understanding of him is he understands bushcraft well [the ability to survive and thrive in natural environments], which provides a challenge for us, but we keep an absolutely open mind on what options are open to him and those options will inform our approach,” said Victoria’s Chief Commissioner of Police, Mike Bush.
 
Freeman, previously known as Desmond Filby, is alleged to have fired on the group, killing two officers and injuring another before fleeing on foot into dense bushland, police said.
 
Police identified the victims as Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart, 35.
