“They’re fighting for their life,” the Republican said, explaining the South American country has “no money” and could profit by exporting their supply of beef to the U.S. – a high-cost item for American shoppers.

Questioned how that would help U.S. farmers, Trump said they don’t plan to buy “too much,” and re-emphasized that the proposal would reduce the cost of beef domestically.

“I happen to like the president of Argentina,” Trump said. “I think he’s trying to do the best he can. But don’t make it sound like they’re doing great,” he added.
