On Tuesday, dogs and their humans took to the streets in Madrid to raise awareness against animal abandonment and abuse.

The annual charity event, dubbed Sanperrestre, is a dog-centred variant of the San Silvestre race; a global New Year’s Eve tradition where marathon runners wear festive costumes.

The 15th edition of the event was organized by an animal protection group known as El Refugio.
