Global NewsFrench President Macron says Trump’s Ukraine peace plan needs to be “improved”

European officials reacted Tuesday to a U.S. peace proposal to end Russia’s war in Ukraine that they view as tilted in Moscow’s favour. Hower, they didn’t disclose details of weekend talks and warned of a long road to peace.

President Donald Trump’s peace plan goes in the right direction but “there are aspects of that plan that deserve to be discussed, negotiated, improved,” French President Emmanuel Macron told RTL radio in an interview.

Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, speaking from Berlin, said Germany “expressly welcomes” the U.S. government’s endeavours to end the war in Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov avoided a direct answer to a reporter’s question about the ongoing Russian-American talks in Abu Dhabi about the peace plan for Ukraine.
