Cowichan Tribes say they tried to stop illegal dumpsite but want federal gov’t to take action

Who knew what when, and who should pay for the cleanup? It’s a blame game when it comes to the illegal dumping ground near the Cowichan River around Duncan, B.C.

A technical report, ordered by the provincial government, confirmed that the waste pile has asbestos in it and that pollutants are leaching into the groundwater and migrating downstream.

As Paul Johnson reports, with cleaning costs estimated in the millions, no one is jumping at the chance to take responsibility.
