Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet Prime Minister Mark Carney today in Halifax before heading to the United States for crucial meetings with President Donald Trump.

The in-person meeting comes a day after Zelenskyy took to social media to share that he had a “good conversation” with Carney over the phone.

Zelenskyy said he updated Carney on the status of diplomatic efforts between Ukraine and the United States to end the fighting that’s followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said that peace talks were a focal point of the phone call, with Carney commending Zelenskyy for his efforts in continuing to seek a lasting peace for Ukraine.
