Global NewsCarney calls for “comprehensive economic partnership agreement” with India

Prime Minister Mark Carney called on Sunday for a “comprehensive economic partnership agreement” between Canada and India, highlighting India’s status as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies. 
 
Carney’s advocacy for greater trade with India follows allegations of Indian government meddling in Canadian affairs, and the Prime Minister said Canada remains “vigilant.” 
 
Carney said a current “strong commercial relationship” and “tight ties” between Canada and India, could be further developed through a trade agreement that includes “protections to our businesses” and essential “dispute mechanisms.”
 
Carney also mentioned that Canada is launching a new trilateral partnership with Australia and India that will focus on technology and innovation.
