Big Island Lake shooting suspects wanted by Saskatchewan RCMP after 1 killed, 3 injured

One person is dead, three are injured and two suspects are on the run in, or near a remote Saskatchewan community, RCMP confirmed Tuesday after issuing a dangerous persons alert.

At roughly 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday – two and a half hours after the first report of the incident – authorities issued the warning for Big Island Cree Nation and the surrounding area, which is 3.5 hours from Edmonton, Alta. and four hours from Saskatoon.

The suspects were last seen on an ATV, Ashley St. Germaine, Inspector for Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch, told reporters in the afternoon.

Hours after the alert, the community remains in lockdown, with the RCMP advising the public they will provide any updates that may impact locals’ safety once available.
