Global NewsBC ostrich cull: Canada “waged war” by gunning down birds in middle of night, family says
On Monday, Katie Pasitney, whose mother co-owns the British Columbia ostrich farm, expressed her outrage, stating that the ostriches were “gunned down in the middle of the night by cowards by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency,” and added that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) did not notify them about the impending gunfire.
“That night was not the end, but it was a beginning. And it started a new waging, a new kind of war. And it’s not one of weapons, but of accountability for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency,” Pasitney said.
U.S. billionaire businessman and activist John Catsimatidis expressed his disappointment in certain politicians who lacked “the courage to stand up and say, enough is enough”. He called for an external investigation, insisting, “Let truth prevail.”
Last week, the CFIA completed the cull and disposal of 314 ostriches after the Supreme Court of Canada declined to hear an appeal from Universal Ostrich Farms near Edgewood, following an outbreak of avian flu at the farm.
