India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs to successfully defend their T20 World Cup title. The win made India the first team to claim the T20 World Cup on home soil, the first to win consecutive titles after their 2024 victory, and the first side to lift the trophy three times.

Speaking about the next challenge, Gambhir said Test cricket remains extremely close to his heart. He said the team will focus on qualifying for the World Test Championship final while continuing to support young players during the transition in red-ball cricket.
