Special court to try South Sudan’s Riek Machar on murder and treason charges • FRANCE 24 English
A special court in South Sudan set up to try opposition leader Riek Machar is set to sit on Wednesday to start receiving evidence from the prosecution. The court has ruled that it has jurisdiction to prosecute Mr. Machar and seven co-accused, who are charged with murder, treason and crimes against humanity. The court made the decision after Mr. Machar’s legal team said the court had no authority and constitutionality to prosecute him and his co-accused. Patrick Oyet reports from Juba.
