Pepco CEO explains rising costs in electric bills this winter

Pepco’s CEO says higher winter electric bills are largely driven by rising supply costs and increased energy usage, with supply prices jumping from $29 to $333 per megawatt day. Increased demand — including from data centers — combined with retired power plants has created what Pepco calls a “perfect storm” for higher prices. Pepco offers up to $300 in bill assistance for qualifying customers and encourages energy-saving steps like lowering thermostats and unplugging appliances.
