Watch: Venezuela Releases Video Showing Vessel Allegedly Intercepted By US Destroyer

The Venezuelan government on Saturday (13 September) released footage purportedly showing a US warship intercepting one of its vessels in Caribbean waters. Caracas said a US destroyer intercepted, boarded, and occupied a Venezuelan tuna fishing boat for eight hours on Friday within the South American nation’s Special Economic Zone. In a statement delivered by Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, the government condemned the boarding as “illegal” and “hostile,” stressing that the vessel was crewed by nine “humble” fishermen and posed no threat. This comes after President Donald Trump’s order last week to deploy 10 stealth aircraft as part of a military build-up in the Caribbean aimed at countering drug cartels, further heightening tensions with Venezuela.
