UK: Enormous Fin Whale Skull Excavated For Research

Scientists in the UK have dug up the massive skull of a fin whale buried on the University of Exeter campus. The 20-metre whale washed ashore and died in Cornwall in 2020, after which its two-tonne head was buried to naturally clean the bones. This week, researchers used heavy machinery and industrial vacuum tools to carefully lift the skull from a two-metre-deep pit. The team says the recovered skull will support ongoing whale studies and may eventually be displayed as a memorial for the local community.
