Ukraine’s capital Kyiv plunged into darkness early on Friday by what the air force called a “massive attack”, as Russia pummelled Kyiv’s infrastructure, cutting off water and energy supplies and triggering a fire in a high-rise apartment building. President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday called on allies — including the United States — to respond with concrete measures after Russia launched a drone and missile barrage on Ukrainian energy facilities. Pictures posted online showed apartments ablaze as firefighters moved into position. Fragments from downed drones also struck several parts of the city. Residents of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and nine other regions suffered power outages Friday following a wave of Russian drone and missile attacks, the energy ministry said.
