#Firstpost Macron Briefing LIVE: Macron Says Trump Might Sanction Russia, Suggests 4-Way Ukraine Summit with EU
US President Donald Trump met with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky along with the EU leaders and NATO chief to discuss a possible peace deal between Russia and Ukraine. Trump reiterated his call for a trilateral summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky. French President Macron suggested a 4-way summit including the European Union to help reach a deal between the two warring nations.
Speaking to the press after the Meeting, Macron said Trump is willing to sanction Russia if Putin stalls the peace process. “The discussion addressed the possibility that a result would not be achieved, the possibility that Russia would not sincerely want to engage in such a process. And, at that point, he (Trump) signalled his willingness and readiness to impose what he calls primary and secondary tariffs. But which we, in fact, call sanctions.” Macron also expressed his doubts on Russia and Putin’s desire for peace, saying “as long as he (Putin) thinks he can win through war, he will do so.”
