In a major blow to Qatar’s mediation efforts in the DR Congo, the Rwanda-backed M23 rebels have suspended the peace talks, vowing not to return until previous ceasefire deal commitments are met. The two sides were supposed to finalise a peace deal on Monday (August 18), after Qatar reportedly shared a draft peace agreement with the DRC government and the M23 on Sunday (August 17). However, the deadline passed as both parties continued to accuse each other of ceasefire violations.
