LIVE: Trump Dials PM Modi On Birthday, Thanks Him For “Ending” Ukraine War | N18G|
US President Donald Trump extended his wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 75th birthday during a call, thanking the latter for his assistance in helping to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. The call comes in as the two nations are amidst a trade war with Trump imposing hefty 50% tariff on India. The American trade team, led by Brendan Lynch, held “positive” talks with the Indian Commerce Ministry. India and the US are still far from signing a trade deal. PM Modi’s administration is unwilling to accept Trump’s demand to sell GM crops or to accept dairy imports. Despite tariffs, India has recorded an uptick in exports. Meanwhile, PM Modi is urging the Indians to consume Made-In-India products . Trump’s trade tactics are also focussed on discouraging India from importing oil from Russia.
