Pakistan has signed a new mutual defence deal with Saudi Arabia — the bilateral treaty entails that an attack on either country would be treated as an attack on both. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman signed the agreement with Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz Sharif in Riyadh yesterday. Meanwhile, India has said the government was aware that such a deal was “under consideration”, and that it was closely monitoring the situation. Both Saudi Arabia and India are key trade partners, and Riyadh has also reiterated that it will continue to grow ties with New Delhi.
The defence treaty also comes at a time when US failed to defend its West Asian ally Qatar from an Israeli aggression.
