They carpooled together, greeted each other with a hug, and then strolled hand in hand — that’s how the bilateral meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin began. During the talks, Putin hailed India-Russia ties and addressed PM Modi as his “dear friend”. Modi, for his part, called for peace in Ukraine. This year marks the 23rd edition of the Annual Bilateral Summit. New Delhi will host it, and President Putin is set to travel to India for the event. PM Modi said that all of India is waiting to welcome him. The meeting comes against the backdrop of Washington accusing India of funding Putin’s war through its purchase of Russian oil. US President Donald Trump used this as a pretext to impose 50% tariffs on India. Palki Sharma tells you more.
