India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar who held a conversation with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov said India is “very perplexed at the logic of the argument”, when asked about the US government’s assertion that penal tariffs have been imposed on India for buying oil from Russia despite its war with Ukraine. Jaishankar made it clear that India will continue to have an energy partnership with Moscow. He also raised concerns regarding trade imbalance. India is encouraging Russia to import Indian goods in a bid to strengthen the bilateral trade and reduce the impact of Trump tariffs.
